Backup to NAS fails - Access to the file is denied - The specified network name is no longer available

Problem

  • Image Location is on a NAS device configured for SMB 2.0 support
  • Image Location test passes, but backup fails with below error

 

Backup failed - ProtectCommand: Failed to execute the command. EnsureBackupInvariantsCommand: Failed to prepare the location for the backup archive. Access is denied. Failed to retrieve information about file '\\<NAS address>\<folder>\<agent GUID>\VolBackup\<set name>'. Access is denied. Access to the file is denied. The specified network name is no longer available

 

Cause

  • Acronis Command line process was unable to authenticate to the NAS (using encrypted agent credentials)

Solution

  • change SMB version support in NAS configuration from 2.0 to 3.0
