How do I convert a BUDR-generated Image into a VMDK file for VMWare Workstation or VMWare Fusion or VMWare Server?

QUESTION
How do I convert a BUDR-generated Image into a VMDK file for VMWare Workstation or VMWare Fusion or VMWare Server?

ANSWER
You can use the following process to add a virtual hard disk (.vmdk file) to a VMware Workstation or Server:

For VMWare Workstation or Server:

1. Launch VMWare Workstation
2. Open your VMware virtual machine and make sure it is powered off.
3. Choose VM -> Settings.
4. On the Hardware tab, click Add to start the Add Hardware wizard, select Hard Disk and click Next.
5. On the Select a Disk page, select Use an existing virtual disk and click Next.
6. On the Select an Existing Disk page, enter the path name and filename for the existing disk file, or browse to the file and click OK. Even if the converted virtual disk consists of several .vmdk files, you will need to pick only one .vmdk file at the last page of the wizard. This will add the whole virtual disk.

For VMWare Fusion:

1. Launch Fusion
2. Select your VMware virtual machine and make sure it is powered off.
3. Choose Virtual Machine -> Settings
4. Click the Hard Disks icon. In the dialog there, choose the '+' icon
5. With the newly created hard disk selected, select the File Name pulldown and select the choose existing disk.
6. On the Open dialog, browse to the file, choose the chekcbox and choose 'Copy' and click Open. Even if the converted virtual disk consists of several .vmdk files, you will need to pick only one .vmdk file. This should add the whole virtual disk.

What if converting the image to a VMDK file results in an error when attempting to startup the VMDK file within the VMWare Workstation, Fusion, or Server application?

Reconvert the Images to VMDK files and try converting again if there are errors experienced with the image to VMDK process. Also try running the conversion from the Acronis TrueImage GUI application (<InstallationDirectory>:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageServer\TrueImage.exe). You will need the image password (On your Kaseya Server: Backup Tab > Configure > Image Password)

How am I able to measure the time that a VMDK conversion will take based on an original image size?

There is no Kaseya based estimated time calculation available for this. The larger the image, the more time it will take. The faster the computer specifications and configuration, the faster an image can convert into a VMDK file.
