Question
Is it possible to backup an Active/Active SQL Cluster with Shadow Protect?
Answer
ShadowProtect only backs up volumes that are local to the installed instance. It is a sector-level backup of the data on the volumes that it is configured to back up. What this means is that if ShadowProtect is installed on a machine that has an instance of SQL running as part of a cluster, ShadowProtect only backs up the data that is stored locally on the specific machine. It does not see and is not aware of any data stored on another machine. The customer would need to install ShadowProtect on every machine that contains data for the SQL cluster and back them up as well. The application is not cluster-aware.
