Bare Metal Restore, drivers not available

SUMMARY

Bare Metal Restore, drivers not available

ISSUE

Purpose

When performing Bare Metal restore to dissimilar hardware it is most often the case that a storage driver will need to be injected in order for the OS to boot properly.  It is possible that a hardware manufacturer won’t have a driver available for a specific version of Windows, Windows 2008 R2 for example with an IBM x3650.  On their site it says that the Windows installation media already has the needed driver.  In the event the needed driver is already available this is a series of steps that can be followed to enable the use of the driver.

Resolution

Enable needed drivers on restored system by loading system hive and modifying the registry keys associated with the needed storage drivers.
