How are device names discovered in Traverse?

QUESTION:

In Traverse, during a Network Discovery how are device names found?

SOLUTION:

During network discovery the device name is derived as follows, in this order:

  1. sysName if SNMP credentials are provided and device responds

  2. DNS name if resolvable

  3. ip_address where 'address' is the ip address e.g. ip_192.168.1.100

The device name is determined by checking the DNS server local to the DGE extension where discovery is running. If discovery finds a device with IP address 192.168.10.22, it will try to resolve that address using the name servers configured on the DGE extension.
