Report output to Excel format generates exception errors

KB# KKB000999

QUESTION

When I try to generate large reports with output in Microsoft Excel format, you get an error. Other output formats work fine and smaller Excel output reports also work fine.

The error looks like this:

There was an error generating your report. Please refer to item 980904893847603 for additional diagnostic information. There was an error during the render phase of the report generation. There was an error generating the document Test Billing 8 There was an error generating the document Test Billing 8 System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: ExcelRenderingExtension: Value of cell at row 2152, column 5 exceeds the maximum length for a string of 32767 characters. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.HandledReportRenderingException: ExcelRenderingExtension:Value of cell at row 2152, column 5 exceeds the maximum length for a string of 32767 characters.

ANSWER
We have highlighted the key section in the error above. It states that the size of one of the cells it's trying to output in has exceeded the limit that Microsoft imposes for cells in Excel. Unfortunately, this limit is set by Microsoft and Kaseya cannot modify it.

You will need to generate the report to a different output such as HTML or PDF (if available).

APPLIES TO

Kaseya VSA v6 and above
