How can I uninstall Internet Explorer 11?

KB# KKB001038

QUESTION

Internet Explorer 11 was installed automatically in some of my computers even though I had denied the patch KB2841134. How can I uninstall Internet Explorer 11?

CAUSE

Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) may deploy via Microsoft Windows update patch KB2841134 (which can be denied using Kaseya Patch Management as normal), but also via an option in Internet Explorer IE 10 and IE11 (Settings > About) to automatically update the browser. This latter option cannot be denied using standard Kaseya Patch Management. See KB Article KKB001037 for more details.

ANSWER

To uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer 11, you may use the Windows Update Standalone Installer (Wusa.exe), which can be used to deploy or remove Microsoft patches. Wusa.exe is available in the following Windows operating systems and is located in the %windir%\System32 folder

  • Windows Vista
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows 8
  • Windows Server 2012

The command below will uninstall Internet Explorer 11 silently with auto-reboot

wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:2841134 /quiet

Additional switches are available:

/warnrestart
/forcerestart
/norestart

Type wusa /? in the command prompt for further details.
