QUESTION

When accessing and endpoint over RDP, I get an error stating RDP is not enabled.  Please enable and try again.

ANSWER

In some instances, accessing RDP may produce the following error:

This error is can occur on any operating system that supports setting RDP security settings on the client.  This may includes but is not necessarily limited to:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows Server 2008

To resolve this error:

  • From within the Control Panel on the endpoint, select System
  • Select Remote settings
  • In the Remote Desktop section, select Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure)

Note:  while you may attempt to use the Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure) option, this may not work in many installations.  The option shown is advised for Kaseya RDP tools.

  • If you receive the following notification, click OK (adjust power settings if necessary)
