Archive Fails to Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex External Hard Drive

SUMMARY

This article provides information to correct a problem of failing archive jobs when using a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external USB drive.

ISSUE

Archives to a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex drive can fail requiring a manual re-scan and mount to be necessary to run Archive jobs.   This is caused by a default sleep function which requires the device to be re-scanned and mounted in order to use the Archive functions.

Resolution

The sleep function can be disabled using Seagate's own utility which can be downloaded HERE.

Disable Sleep Settings

Once the Seagate software is installed...

Open the Dashboard application
Click Drive Settings in the Drives panel
