SUMMARY
This article provides information about adding drives to your recovery archive unit.
ISSUE
All drives within the recovery archive unit that are attached to a single system are treated as one logical volume. Data is written across all drives in the logical volume. Once you archive to a logical volume, these drives must be treated as a single entity. Removing a drive from the logical volume corrupts archived data.
To add a drive, you must prepare the media to create a new logical volume (see Preparing archive media) . The prepare operation removes all existing data on the media. If you have a set of 3 archive drives and you are running out of space, you can add a 4th drive and prepare to create a larger logical volume, but any existing archives are deleted. If you need to preserve existing archives, remove that set of drives and insert 4 new ones. For more information, see To add a drive to a multi-drive system.
Also note that all drives within the recovery archive unit that are attached to a single system must have equal capacity. Drives may be of varying capacity if they are attached to different systems.
