How do I set up tape archiving?

SUMMARY

This article explains how to configure tape archiving.

ISSUE

The Unitrends archiving feature enables you to archive local or replicated backups to tape using a disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) system of your choice. Because various types of tape drives and autoloaders behave in different ways, the Unitrends appliance is designed with configuration options that maintain compatability across a range of products. For more information about tape archiving and instructions on setting it up, see the Archiving to tape chapter in the Recovery-Series and UEB Administrator's Guide.

Note for UEB on VMware systems: Tape archiving is only supported for UEB VMs running on ESX(i) 4.1 (due to limitations in VMware) and with SCSI tape devices (FC, iSCSI, and SAS are not supported). Although it may be possible to run an archive using other devices and ESX servers, it is likely you will NOT be able to restore this data.
