Error 0x0000005D (Unsupported Processor) when booting Release 7.4 Integrated Bare Metal restore media

SUMMARY

Error 0x0000005D (Unsupported Processor) when booting Release 7.4 Integrated Bare Metal restore media

ISSUE

Purpose

To provide possible workarounds for Error 0x0000005D (Unsupported Processor) when booting Release 7.4 Integrated Bare Metal restore media

Description

When booting the Integrated Bare Metal restore media on a physical server, WinPE fails and produces error information that includes the error number 0x0000005D – Unsupported Processor.

Cause

The Bare Metal media is built upon WinPE 4.0 which is based on Windows 8.  Windows 8 requires the processor features NX, PAE, SSE2 to be enabled.

Processors that are older may not have this support.  For some servers the processor features are present but disabled.

Resolution

For those older servers whose processors do not have these features the Bare Metal media cannot be used.  A different server must be chosen for the restore.

For those servers whose processors have the needed features they must be enabled via the server BIOS interface.  After booting into the BIOS interface the user can navigate to the processor configuration screens to enable NX/SSE2/PAE. These screens will vary depending on server manufacturer.
