ISSUE

Describe the steps to take when a Windows Instant Recovery client running Windows 8.1 suffers blue screen during audit mode or live mode boot.

If a Windows 8.1 client suffers a blue-screen crash during audit mode or live mode boot and the error shown on the crash screen includes the description OS_DATA_TAMPERING then follow the resolution instructions below.
 

Cause

This blue-screen error has been seen when booting Windows 8.1 clients whose memory configuration is below the minimum requirements documented by Microsoft.
 

Resolution

Reconfigure the memory size of the Windows Instant Recovery client to be minimally 1GB for 32-bit versions and 2GB for 64-bit versions.  Then reboot the client into audit/live mode.
