Hyper-V restore to an alternate location fails

SUMMARY

Restore of a Hyper-V guest to an alternate location fails with error "Cluster configuration missing."

ISSUE

Purpose

Restore to alternate Hyper-V host in a cluster configuration

Description

When restoring a Hyper-V VM to an alternate host in a cluster configuration, the restore fails with the error “Cluster configuration missing. Restore to original location.”

Cause

Unitrends requires the VM’s cluster configuration information to be able to restore a VM to an alternate host within the Hyper-V cluster. When a Hyper-V VM is deleted from Hyper-V Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) it deletes the cluster configuration.

Resolution

The VM may be restored to the original host, or the .vhd/.vhdx file may be restored to an alternate host and the VM may be rebuilt.
