ISSUE

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine ConvertStringSidToSid

RESOLUTION

1. Open your registry editor in Administrative mode
2. Navigate to this registry key
3. HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
4. Expand and local to the subtree and look for a registry key that ends in .bak.
5. Back up this registry key, then delete the key.
6. Restart the server.

CAUSE

There is an invalid entry inside the registry for the ProfileList.
