Why are the low disk alerts not firing when free disk space is below alarm threshold?

KB#:  KKB000653

QUESTION

Why are the low disk alerts not firing when free disk space is below alarm threshold?

Disk space was below 5%

Low Disk Alert was configured for < 20% free space

No alarms received

Low Disk Alerts only fire if: -

1) audit finds free space to be below the alarm threshold
2) free space was above threshold when last audit ran

In this case, the disk had been below the threshold for some time so no alarm had been fired within the log retention period.

In addition,if any other problems prevent you from seeing the alert, (email misdirected, network or server overwhelmed by traffic, etc.) then you will miss the alert altogether because the alert is only triggered ONCE.

ANSWER

If you wish to have low disk alerts that 're-arm', use '% Free Space' perfmon counter in a Monitor Set.

A monitor set will alert you regardless of the amount of disk space free at the time you apply the set. It will also re-arm and continue to alert you until the condition is corrected.

We recommend not depending upon email alone for critical conditions. For this reason, it may be a good idea to send and email and trigger an alarm.

All versions of Kaseya Monitoring
