Enabling SharePoint Online Lists Backup

Spanning Backup for Microsoft 365 now has expanded backup and recovery support for SharePoint Online Lists.

As a Spanning Backup for Microsoft 365 customer, you already have access to automated backup for your critical data stored in SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams and Exchange Online. Starting today, we are adding support for SharePoint Online lists. 

Important Notes

• There is no additional configuration necessary as long as you have SharePoint Online backup enabled for your tenant
• There is no change to your subscription price, storage or retention settings

Viewing SharePoint Online List Backups

Because SharePoint Online lists backup is automatic you only need to view and verify if the backups are taking place initially. Once those backups have completed they will appear alongside your existing SharePoint Online library backups as seen below.

To view SharePoint lists details:

1. As a Spanning Administrator navigate to the SharePoint tab in your left navigation

2. Select a specific list from the collection of protected site contents

3. Expand the list to view individual list items that are protected

Restore SharePoint Online Lists and List Items with Spanning Backup for Microsoft 365

1. As a Spanning Administrator navigate to the SharePoint tab in your left navigation

2. Select a specific list from the collection of protected site contents

3a. To restore an entire List Click the "Select Action" drop down in the top right corner to perform a restore of the entire list

3b. To restore a list item expand the SharePoint List by clicking on it and select the specific item(s) from the expanded selection

Functional Limitations and Known Issues

We have identified an issue with certain modern list templates that are causing backup and recovery issues. We have raised this in a ticket with Microsoft and expect to have it resolved as soon as possible.
