Release Notes for Recovery Series, Recovery Max, ION/ION+, and Unitrends Backup 10.6

This document describes new features and fixes introduced in the 10.6 release. For upgrade instructions and considerations, reference the Upgrade Guide for Recovery Series and Unitrends Backup.

NOTES:

Rebooting the Unitrends appliance is recommended upon upgrading to this release.
To upgrade the appliance from version 10.2 or earlier, additional steps are required. For details, see Upgrade fails when upgrading from version 10.2 or older.

NEW - ION and ION+ appliances

New ION/ION+ desktop appliances are now available as a completely silent micro desktop (ION models) or a powerful and ultra-quiet desktop tower (ION+ models). Perfect for offices with no server room or MSPs scaling backup to small customer sites. For details, see ION/ION+ Models.

NOTE:

VMware SAN-direct backups are NOT supported on ION appliances. VMware SAN-direct backups are
supported on ION+ appliances.

Windows agent

This release includes updated Windows core and bare metal agents. The 10.6 core agent is recommended for all Windows assets.

IMPORTANT!

Windows image-level backups – After upgrading from a pre-10.4.9 agent,the next backup is automatically promoted to a full.

Fixes

The table below lists fixes included in this release. Unless stated otherwise, you can apply each fix by simply upgrading your appliance.

Component	Fix
Upgrade appliance	Resolved an issue where certain logs were not being rotated as expected. Over time these logs could fill a directory that is used during upgrades, causing the installation to fail. Resolved an issue that caused offline upgrades to fail in some cases.
