System will not boot

ISSUE

Description

System will not boot. 

After grub loads you see an error stating:

error:  mounting /dev/root  on /sysroot as ext3: bad superblock

mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'

setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory

setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory

setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory

switchroot: mount failed: No such file or directory

Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

Cause

The motherboard disk setting is set for IDE and not AHCI.

Resolution

Go into the BIOS using the DEL key and go to the [ADVANCED Menu].  Select SATA/Floppy Configuration and change the SATA configuration to ‘AHCI’.
