ISSUE

When using NFS mounted to VMware, why is the VMDK assigned to the UB configured as Thin Provision?

RESOLUTION

The VMware default can not be changed. However, over time the space will be allocated as deduplication other processes move the data throughout the allocated disk size Please see this VMware "Best Practices for Running VMware vSphere on NFS"

CAUSE

VMware default virtual disk provisioning on NFS storage is Thin Provision.
