Release Notes for Recovery Series and Unitrends Backup 10.4.1
DESCRIPTION
This document describes new features and fixes introduced in the 10.4.1 release. For upgrade instructions and considerations, reference the Upgrade Guide for Recovery Series and Unitrends Backup.
Features
This release adds these new features:
Linux – The Linux distributions listed below are now supported. To protect these environments, the Unitrends appliance must be running release 10.4.1 or higher and the asset must be running the latest Linux agent.
Fedora 31
Red Hat 8.1
Ubuntu 19.10
Oracle Linux 8.1
Ontrack PowerControls 9.3
- Ontrack PowerControls 9.3 can now be used for item-level recovery of these Unitrends application backups:
Exchange, SharePoint, and SQL.
- Ontrack PowerControls 9.3 can now be used for item-level recovery of Unitrends Windows image-level backups for Exchange, SQL, and SharePoint, including the addition of SQL Server table-level recovery.
Windows agent – This release includes updated Windows core and bare metal agents. The 10.4.1 core agent is recommended for all Windows assets and is required for Windows fixes in this release.
Notes:
For servers that are using Windows deduplication, you must run a new full backup after upgrading the agent.
In some other cases, a new full backup is needed after upgrading to the agent. In these cases, the appliance cannot run an incremental or differential until a full backup runs. If you attempt an on-demand incremental or differential, the appliance promotes the backup to a full. If the next job is a scheduled incremental or differential, the job fails. After this failure, the appliance promotes the next scheduled run to a full. Once this full succeeds, subsequent incrementals and differentials run as scheduled.
The Windows agent includes a Windows Volume CBT driver to enable incremental Windows image-level backups. If installing the agent manually, you can opt to include this driver. If push-installing agent updates, this driver is installed or updated as needed on assets that are eligible for image-level backups. To enable this driver, you must reboot the Windows server after the Volume CBT driver has been installed or updated. (The last driver update was in agent version 10.3.3. If you are running a pre-10.3.3 agent version or if you have never installed the Volume CBT driver, a reboot is required.)
The Windows bare metal agent is required only if you need to run bare metal backups that can be used to perform image-based bare metal recovery of your Windows asset. For most Windows assets, regular Windows backups are used to perform integrated bare metal recovery, which is the recommended approach.
Fixes
The table below lists fixes included in this release. Unless stated otherwise, you can apply each fix by simply upgrading your appliance.
Component
Bug
Appliance Disaster Recovery
Disaster recovery of an appliance running a pre-10.4 version to a 10.4 appliance target – Fixed a system metadata incompatibility issue that caused disaster recovery to fail.
Disaster recovery of a CentOS 6 appliance to a CentOS 7 appliance target – Fixed a hostname issue that caused disaster recovery to fail.
Appliance Storage
Adding iSCSI storage to a Unitrends Backup virtual appliance – Fixed an issue where newly added iSCSI storage was not properly configured on the appliance. After adding the storage and attempting to reboot, the appliance could not boot properly.
Backups
Windows image-level backups – Resolved an issue where backups could fail with the following error due to an offset mismatch: More blocks in the bitmap(nnnnn) than the backup(nnnnn).
NDMP backups – Fixed an indexing issue that could cause NDMP backups to fail.
Cold backup copy
Import backup copies – Resolved an issue where the import failed in some cases if the copy was created by another backup appliance.
Hot Backup Copy
Fixed an issue where hot backup copies for a given asset would be added to the queue but never be copied to the target due to an out of order condition where a newer backup had already been copied.
Recovering files from the Unitrends Cloud upon upgrading to 10.4 – Fixed an issue where recovery would fail because the source appliance could not obtain a new authorization token from the Cloud.
Recovery
File-level recovery of Windows image-level backup – Fixed an issue where files could not be recovered from in imported cold backup copy. Upon importing the copy and creating the recovery object, no volumes were presented after mounting the CIFS share or iSCSI LUN.
Hyper-V instant recovery (IR) – Fixed an issue where tearing down a failed instant recovery session did not remove the IR VM from the virtual host if disks had not yet been attached to the IR VM.
Hyper-V instant recovery (IR) – Fixed a protocol issue that caused instant recovery to fail with this error in the Windows event log: Remote share does not support resiliency.
Reports
Backup Copy Capacity report – Fixed an issue where the report could not be generated after upgrading to release 10.4.
SQL Security Vulnerability
A security researcher identified a SQL injection vulnerability associated with a GUID that allowed for authentication bypass. The GUID is now being type-checked to ensure a valid value and the query execution has been parameterized to prevent SQL injection.
Windows Agent Push
Fixed a permissions issue that caused agent push to fail in some environments.
