Minimum requirements of CentOS7 UB for each of the hypervisors should be met as below:
-
VMware: ESXi 5.5
-
Hyper-V: Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 SP1
-
AHV: Acropolis Operating System (AOS) version 5.1.4
-
-
Once the old CentOS6 UB is powered off,
-
On your Hypervisor, edit the settings of the CentOS 6 VM and detach the virtual disks that are used for the backups (not the 100GB OS). "VERY IMPORTANT" Make sure to keep track of the order of the disks.
-
Deploy a CentOS7 UB onto your Hypervisor (download links are in KB 5574).
-
Assign the same CPU and RAM resources as the previous UB deployment (with a minimum of 4vCPU and 16GB of vRAM as per the Deployment Best Practices guide).
If you need to make VM setting changes to the Network Interface Controller (e.g. Nutanix, or apply previous MAC address), do so now. -
Then, edit the new CentOS7 UB and attach the virtual disk from the original CentOS6 UB by following the ‘Attach backup storage’ section instructions in the applicable migration guide:
► CentOS 6 to CentOS 7 Migration Guide for VMware
► CentOS 6 to CentOS 7 Migration Guide for Hyper-V
► CentOS 6 to CentOS 7 Migration Guide for AHV -
Power on the new CentOS7 UB VM. This will start the Unitrends Backup Console Interface.
-
Edit and apply the Network and DNS the IP settings (IP/Subnet/Gateway/DNS) by setting the same IP address of the old CentOS6 UB to the newly deployed CentOS7 UB.
-
Start the Web Interface, and complete the Setup Wizard. There is a delay at the end before being presented your storage options.
-
-
You will be presented with a pop up with three options i.e, to ‘Recover’, ‘Erase data', ‘Cancel’.
You will select on Recover button.
-
Once the recover process is completed, Login in to the Web UI and configure the encryption settings (If configured on CentOS6 UB). Encryption password must be the same as the encryption password used by the CentOS6 UB.
-
After a successful stateless restore on the CentOS7 UB,
-
If the old CentOS6 UB UI password doesn’t satisfy the newer password policies (i.e dictionary words and unitrends strings are prohibited), an alert is triggered in the UI to change the password.
-
If the alert shows up, you need to comply with it and change the UI password.
-
-
CentOS7 UB should be re-licensed post migration from UI (appliance -> Configure -> Edit -> License -> Update -> I need to activate my purchase)
-
If you have a replication setup (i.e. source and target pair UBs),
-
Post a successful migration on either of the UBs, the new CentOS7 UB should have the same IP address as of the CentOS6 UB prior to migration.
-
-
If you had any DCA jobs running previously before migration, you should create your lab profile again for the DCA jobs to run successfully after the migration.
