My databases, mail stores, or VMs are missing when scheduling a backup

SUMMARY

Sometimes databases, mail stores, or VMs will not be able to display in the backup scheduler screen if the Unitrends system cannot resolve the hostname of your client

ISSUE

Purpose

Allow MS SQL databases, Exchange mail stores, or Hyper-V or VMware VMs to display in the backup scheduler

Description

Sometimes databases, mail stores, or VMs will not be able to display in the backup scheduler screen if the Unitrends system cannot resolve the hostname of your client

Cause

Resolution

If possible, use an IP address when adding clients. If it is not possible to use a static IP address, please give the DHCP address a very long lease time and add the client by its dynamic IP. After adding the client by its IP, refresh the list of VMs/databases in the schedule screen by clicking the black and red circular icon at the bottom of the list.

Please also note that in a Hyper-V cluster, it is a Microsoft best practice to add new VMs using the Failover Cluster Manager rather than Hyper-V manager. Unitrends will only be able to recognize new Hyper-V VMs added in this manner.
