Networking and storage issues encountered when booting from the Windows integrated bare metal recovery ISO image

SUMMARY

Networking and storage issues encountered when booting from the Windows integrated bare metal recovery ISO image

ISSUE

Purpose

To explain networking and storage issues you might encounter when booting the restore destination machine from a Windows integrated bare metal recovery ISO.

Description

When booting the destination machine for the recovery, you might see a message stating that you must set up networking to continue or that no disks are detected on the local system.

Cause

WinPE 4.0, the minimal version of Windows used for the restore, cannot detect a network adapter or storage disks.

Resolution

WinPE 4.0 is based on Windows 8, so you must add Windows 8 drivers for the restore. Click Ok to allow the boot to continue, and you can load drivers as part of the first step in the Windows Integrated Bare Metal Recovery Wizard.
