The VSA 9.5.20 feature release (build 9.5.20.6331) includes enhancements and fixes described in the following sections. For minimum system and agent requirements, refer to Kaseya Server Minimum Requirements & Configuration and Agent Minimum Requirements.
Release schedule
- SaaS deployment started: Saturday, August 24th, 2024
- SaaS deployment completed: Saturday, September 7th, 2024
- General Availability (on-premises customers): Thursday, September 12th, 2024 - Available now!
Note: SaaS customers will be informed of their maintenance window via status.kaseya.com.
Dates are subject to change at short notice. On-premises customers are advised to check this page again before attempting an upgrade.
Last Update: September 10th, 2024 (General Availability release date changed from September 11th to 12th)
Important Security Update
This release includes important security updates. We recommend that on-premises customers upgrade as soon as possible after the General Availability (GA) release date. (No action is required for SaaS customers, as updates are automatically applied).
Dependencies
Agent | This release requires agent version 9.5.0.45. After upgrading from an earlier VSA version, you must update your Windows, macOS, and Linux agents using the automatic or manual update process from the agent module. |
Live Connect Application | When starting a Live Connect or Remote Control session for the first time after installing this release, you will be prompted with a link to download the latest Live Connect build. You must complete the installation before proceeding with the session. |
Software Management |
This release includes updates to the Software Management client code. Each managed machine will download 120 MB of file updates during the first patch scan or deployment cycle after installing the VSA update. The files will be sourced from the VSA server or a peer endpoint machine on the local network that already has the files. Recommendations to mitigate the impact on network bandwidth:

Support policy for prior releases
Kaseya recommends that customers update their environments to the latest patch release as soon as possible after the GA release date.
Our policy is to provide support for the current GA release, one prior Feature Release, and any interim Maintenance Releases. After the 9.5.20 GA date stated in the release schedule, the minimum supported version will be the 9.5.19 Feature Release.
Product Lifecycle Updates
Cloud Backup (KCB)
Please click here for important information about an upcoming mandatory Acronis license upgrade. Action is required by all customers who are currently using KCB.
End of support for Microsoft .NET 6
All VSA components are updated to use .NET 8.
.NET 3.1.28 and .NET 6.0.3, which were previously required for VSA server installation, are no longer required by VSA.
As Microsoft support for .NET 6 will end on November 12, the VSA server installer system checks will now display a warning message if .NET Core 6 is installed on the server (as previously done for .NET 3) and provide instructions for manual uninstallation.
Release features
User-initiated OS patching
Historically, VSA has automatically disabled access to Windows Update when applying Scan & Analysis profiles, which overrides any local GPO settings defined by the Windows administrator. A new profile setting - Disable user access to Windows Update application on assigned machines - allows VSA administrators to control whether end users can access the Windows Update application so that co-managed customers can deploy patches outside of the policies and deployment schedules defined in VSA.
- If selected (Yes), VSA will disable access to the Windows Update application when the profile is assigned to a machine. This is the default setting for new and existing profiles.
- If de-selected (No), VSA will not make any changes to settings that define access to Windows Update.
Other enhancements
Agents
- The Agent > Manage Agents page has been updated to prevent Credentials being applied to Linux agents, where execution of tasks under a user context are not supported.
- The Credential status column in the machine grid now shows an icon to indicate that OS is not supported.
- If all selected machines have an unsupported OS (Linux), the Credentials menu is disabled.
- If the machine selection includes both supported and unsupported OS's, the Credentials menu is enabled but actions will apply only to agents with a supported OS (Windows, macOS).
- Agent Procedure logging has been improved to return an explicit error message if a procedure containing a statement set to "execute as user" runs on an agent with an unsupported OS (Linux).
Agent App
- To help clarify agent package installation behavior, the /e installation option can no longer be disabled when creating or editing a package. The /e option is mandatory, but can be overridden by selecting /k or /r.
Agent Procedures
- The Manage Variables page performance has been improved.
Software Management
- The patch reboot workflow has been enhanced to prevent an unnecessary reboot in the case where a user delayed reboot and then rebooted the machine themselves or shut it down within the delay period. The enhancement is designed to avoid another reboot being initiated by VSA immediately after the user logs back in.
Bug fixes
Agent App
- Forcing an update on a macOS agent no longer removes the agent's custom icon.
Audit
- The System Info audit no longer fails to run on Linux systems.
Info Center
- The Event Logs Frequency and Log Monitoring legacy reports now adopt the time zone setting from System > Customization > Local Settings.
- The First Time and Last Time fields are now successfully populated in the Event Logs Frequency legacy report.
KaseyaOne Integration
- The Error getting IT Complete Login Status error message no longer appears after login by a user without an associated staff member.
Live Connect App
- For Windows 10 and Windows 11, Event Logs no longer fail to load when certain events are present.
Monitoring
-
It is now possible to create, edit, and import a monitor set if the VSA server has a self-signed SSL certificate.
- In the dashboard list, selecting or clearing the Load On Startup check boxes now works as expected. The selected setting persists upon refreshing the page and can be changed freely.
- An email notification will now be sent to specified recipients if the Admin account disabled setting (via the System alert function) is enabled and a user account gets disabled due to incorrect login attempts.
Network Monitor (KNM)
- An issue that prevented KNM from starting after the 9.5.19 release has been fixed.
Quick View
- The Wake Machine button can now be used to wake up an offline agent, provided the following conditions are met:
- the target machine has Wake-on-LAN (WoL) enabled in system BIOS.
- there is an online agent available on the same subnet.
