SUMMARY
This article explains what to do if you cannot log in to the appliance Administrator Interface or OS.
ISSUE
This article explains issues related to the Unitrends appliance and what to do if you cannot log in to the Administrator Interface or the appliance OS via command line.The appliance has two separate logins: one for the Administrator Interface and one for the operating system (command line). Both logins by default are username root and password unitrends1.
Warning: Unitrends highly recommends against using any form of the string 'unitrend' in any password. Any password containing this phrase, in either the UI or OS, should be changed immediately. RESOLUTION
If you cannot log in to the Administrator Interface to change your Administrator Interface password but know Root OS for ssh, see Password Reset: How to reset the root password of the Web Administrative Interface on your Unitrends system.

If you have access to the web GUI of your appliance do the following to change your passwords:
- Change the Administrator Interface root login by navigating to Configure > Appliances, select Appliance and edit > Users, select user, Edit, checking the Change option, entering the new password, and clicking Confirm.
- Change the OS (command line) login by navigating to Configure > Appliances, select Appliance and edit > Advanced > OS Password (bottom button), entering your current OS Root Password, entering the new password, and clicking Confirm.

- Change the Administrator Interface root login by navigating to Settings > Customers, Locations, and Users > Users > Root, checking the Change Password checkbox, entering your new password, and clicking Confirm.
- Change the OS (command line) login by navigating to Settings > System, Updates, and Licensing > OS Password, entering your current OS Root Password, entering your new password, and clicking Confirm.
