Hosts table already has an entry for “client name” when attempting to change a client’s IP or hostname.

SUMMARY

This article explains how to correct the /etc/hosts file from the UI to correct the error presented when attempting to add a Protected Asset: "Hosts table already has an entry for “client name” when attempting to change a client’s IP or hostname."

ISSUE

Error: “Hosts table already has an entry for “client name” when attempting to change a client’s IP or hostname.

Detail: [System] Could not save hostname information: Hosts table already has an entry for "x.x.x.x"

It is not possible to change the IP of an existing client on the Clients menu. This is due to the fact that each time you add a client, an entry is created in the Unitrends system’s host table. When changing the IP or hostname and clicking Setup, the system interprets this as trying to add a duplicate entry in the host table.

For more information, you can review the Administrators Guide Web Edition under Managing protected Assets, subsection To edit an agent-based asset.

RESOLUTION

You must delete the relevant entry from the host table and re-Setup the client.

In the HTML5 /ui/ web administrative interface:
Navigate to Configure > Appliances > Network > Edit Hosts File, then select the incorrect entry and remove it.

You should then be able to add the system from the Configure > Protected Assets menu.
