Updates regarding performance and functionality of physical (Recovery-Series) or virtual (Unitrends Enterprise Backup) appliances and information about upgrading.
ISSUE
This article provides an update regarding the performance and functionality of physical (Recovery-Series) and virtual (Unitrends Backup) appliances and provides information about upgrading those appliances if additional storage, increased performance, or other functionality is required.
Latest releases of software and hardware
- CentOS 6 is required to take advantage of the current User Interface. Physical and virtual Unitrends Backup systems running CentOS 5 may qualify to be upgraded. How can I tell my version of CentOS Linux?
- Release 9 for Recovery-Series physical appliances and Unitrends Backup virtual appliances was released in late 2015.
- For customers who do not wish to switch from our older Flash-based user interface, this interface remains available in release version 9.0 and 9.1.
- Release 9 also offers adaptive inline deduplication, and a number of other enhancements, typically increasing retention by 30% or more for qualifying systems. This is only available on physical appliances sold after August 2015 that came installed with release 8.2 or higher. These current models contain additional resources necessary for the advanced features of release 9.0 to function. If you wish to upgrade an older appliance to a new appliance, please contact the Unitrends sales team at: sales@unitrends.com.
Prior Physical Appliance Generations
For customers who purchased prior generations of physical appliances (prior to February 2015), contact your local vendor to learn about upgrading to a new generation appliance. The current generation of appliances are capable of supporting the latest Unitrends features. These appliances include the following:
- The use of flash solid state disk drives to increase backup and recovery performance.
- The use of faster CPUs and memory that enable faster backup and recovery performance.
- The use of faster I/O plane architectures that enable faster backup and recovery performance.
- Larger amounts of overall capacity through the use of larger rotational disk drives.
- Greater capacity and retention through the use of adaptive inline deduplication.
