How to manage more than 5 distributed appliances with the Distributed Enterprise Manager server

SUMMARY

How to manage more than 5 distributed appliances with the Distributed Enterprise Manager server.

ISSUE

The Distributed Enterprise Manager server requires a dedicated open port for each distributed appliance. By default, the number of open ports reserved for distributed appliances is capped at 5.

RESOLUTION

You must increase the number open ports your Distributed Enterprise Manager server reserves for distributed appliances to match the number of distributed appliances you are managing. To do this, follow the instructions below:

TASKS

Step 1:
Log in to your appliance and select Configure > select your appliance > Edit > Advanced > General Configuration.

Step 2:
Select DEMPortCount from the list.

Step 3:
Enter the total number of distributed appliances you wish to manage in the Value field and click Save.

Step 4:
Select Configure > select your appliance > Network > Ports.

Step 5:

If Port Security is set to Low, toggle it to None, click Save, and then toggle the setting back to Low and click Save. This step insures that the newly added ports are opened on the server.
If Port Security is set to None, you may omit this step. However, you must ensure that the new ports are open on any firewalls between the Distributed Enterprise Manager server and its distributed appliances.
