Symptoms / Description

During the download of the Unitrends Backup (UB) installation file you may get the following error message from Internet Explorer:

This program is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer.

Cause

The error is attributable to the Internet Explorer SmartScreen Filter settings.

Resolution / Workaround / Execution Process

The file is safe to download. 

The message is an indication that the file is not in the list of commonly downloaded programs.  Per Microsoft’s site (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/SmartScreen-Filter-frequently-asked-questions-IE9?SignedIn=1)

“It doesn't necessarily mean the website is fraudulent or that the program is malware, but you probably shouldn't download or install the program unless you trust the website and the publisher.”
