How do I expand the backup datastore for a UEB appliance

SUMMARY

This article will discuss how to increase the size of a UEB backup datastore

ISSUE

UEB backup storage disk is full

RESOLUTION

The UEB appliances leverage the LVM capabilities of the CentOS operating system to increase the size of the backup storage. Existing disks cannot be expanded, but when multiple disks are added together using LVM the UEB appliance will see the disks as one larger backup storage target.  To increase the size of the backup datastore:

• Create a new virtual disk (VMDK or VHD) 
• Attach it to the UEB Appliance VM the same way a disk would be added to any virtual machine
• Follow the steps listed in the 10.8.1 Administrator Guide for Recovery Series, Recovery MAX, ION/ION+, and Unitrends Backup - Adding storage to a Unitrends Backup appliance
