Steps to Install and Configure Spanning Backup for Salesforce Using UniView

Follow the steps outlined below to install and configure Spanning in your client’s Salesforce instance.

  1. Install Spanning Backup for Salesforce in Salesforce
    • Use a Salesforce System Admin account (supported editions: Unlimited, Performance, Enterprise, or Developer).
    • Go to the appropriate installation link:
    • Choose "Install for Admins Only" and proceed through confirmations.
    • After installation, click “Done.”

  2. Initial Configuration in Salesforce
    • As Admin, go to Salesforce: Administration Setup > Manage Apps > Connected Apps.
    • Edit “SpanningBackup” and “SpanningOauth” apps:
      • Under OAuth Policies, set Permitted Users to “Admin Approved users are preauthorized.” Save changes.
    • For each admin needing access, go to: Manage Users > Profiles > System Administrator > Edit > Connected App Access.
      • Ensure both SpanningBackup and SpanningOauth are enabled. Save.

  3. Enable UniView (IT Complete) Authentication

    • In Spanning Backup for Salesforce:
      • Go to Settings > Integrations.
      • Locate the “Login with IT Complete” option and toggle it ON. This allows SSO via UniView.
    • Log out, then proceed to the UniView Portal.
  4. Add the Salesforce Organization to UniView

    • Log in to the UniView Portal as Administrator: UniView Login.
    • Go to Settings > Organizations and click ‘+New’ to add an org matching the Spanning tenant.
    • Go to SaaS Backup, click ‘+ Customer,’ select:
      • Platform: Salesforce
      • The created Organization
      • Subscription Type: Trial (you may need to start as a trial; Support/Salesops@spanning.com can convert to paid after setup)
      • Add License type Legacy
    • Authenticate with Salesforce as prompted (using System Admin credentials).
    • Wait for integration to reflect; license and backup status may take 24 hours to sync in UniView.
  5. Finalization & License Allocation

    • After a successful connection, inform Support/Salesops@spanning.com to convert from trial to paid if necessary.
    • Confirm that backups are running by checking UniView > SaaS Backup dashboard.
    • Set up alerts, notifications, and monitor backup status as needed.

Additional Notes:

  • The Salesforce instance can only be added to UniView while in trial status; Support/Salesops will convert to paid following onboarding if required.
  • If you encounter authentication errors (e.g., “Code 103”), check that the Salesforce admin account used has full access and permissions.
  • For multi-org MSP environments, repeat for each client tenant as needed.
