Tilde "~" character in an exclusion list breaks Novell backups

SUMMARY

Tilde "~" character in an exclusion list breaks Novell backups

ISSUE

Description

the Tilde “~” character not supported in Novell exclusion lists.

Cause

The “~” character is a special character in Novell.  In some cases, files with a “~” in the name can be created and saved, even including folder paths through NFS mounts or other means.  When this character is included in a Unitrends Agent backup exclusion list for Novell, the backup will fail.

Resolution

Remove the exclusion from the list, or edit the filename or path so the “~” character does not need to appear in the backup exclusion list to successfully exclude the requested data.
