AuthAnvil RADIUS Server service will not start after reboot

Issue

The AuthAnvil RADIUS Server Windows service will not start after rebooting the machine. This causes all RADIUS authentication to fail.

Cause

During startup the service is trying to communicate with system components that may not be started yet. It may have attempted to start as soon as possible, but it failed and had no recovery options.

Resolution

Set the AuthAnvil RADIUS Server Service to Automatic (Delayed Start) and configure the service to restart itself upon failure.

  1. In the start menu or the "Run" dialog box, type "services.msc" and hit enter to load the Services window.
  2. Right-click on AuthAnvil RADIUS Server and select "Properties".
  3. Under the General tab, set the Startup Type to "Automatic (Delayed Start)"
  4. Under the Recovery tab, set the first and second failures to "Restart the Service".
This will allow the service to start a few minutes after the server is rebooted. It will also attempt to restart itself in the event of a service failure.
