Clicking on the login tile of a user that has already authenticated with an Windows Password but not an AuthAnvil passcode asks for a passcode only

Issue

Clicking on the login tile of a user that has already authenticated with an Windows Password but not an AuthAnvil passcode asks for a passcode only. This happens even after the logon screen has returned to the Ctrl-Alt-Del prompt.

Cause

This behavour is by design.

Resolution

Due to the way that the login process works with AuthAnvil for Windows Server 2008, to more easily allow users to authenticate, after a valid logon ID and password are entered, but an invalid Passcode is entered, the logon session is kept active until one of the following conditions is met.

Note: This will also persist through screens requiring a Ctrl-Alt-Del.

  1. The user successfully logs on
  2. Another user successfully logs on
  3. The computer is reset

Affects

AuthAnvil WinLogon Credential Provider on Windows Vista/7/Server 2008
