AuthAnvil Licensing Manager Service Fails to Start on System Startup

Issue

AuthAnvil Licensing Manager service fails to start on system startup and writes the following errors to the System event log:

A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the AuthAnvil Licensing Manager service to connect.
------------------------
The AuthAnvil Licensing Manager service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Cause

A blocking process causes the SQL server network connections to not come up in time, causing the SQL server to not be reachable. If the AuthAnvil Licensing Manager service cannot reach SQL within 30 seconds of starting up, it will time out and shut down.

Resolution

  1. In the Services console, open the properties window for the AuthAnvil Licensing Manager service.
  2. In the General tab, set the Startup Type to Automatic (Delayed Start).
  3. In the Recovery tab, set the service to restart on the first and second failures. This will typically allow SQL to come up in time and resolve the issue.
  4. Start the AuthAnvil Licensing Manager Service.

Affects

AuthAnvil 2.x and later.
