Can not activate Windows Mobile SoftToken


Windows Mobile SoftToken activation fails with one of the following errors:

  1. EXCEPTION: An error message cannot be displayed because an optional resource assembly containing it cannot be found. 
  2. Error: "Unable to connect to network. Please verify your network settings".


These versions of the Windows Mobile SoftToken read the phone number from the phone's "Owner Information" to help identify the phone. If the phone number is not present, the token will fail to activate. 



Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Owner Information, enter your phone number and tap OK.

Note: On certain devices running Windows Mobile 6.5 or later, the Owner Information settings may not be available by default. You can access them by following the instructions at
