"Failed to decrypt the SoftToken secret" appears on Desktop SoftToken

Opening up the AuthAnvil Desktop SoftToken app on a Windows machine displays this error: "Decryption Error. Failed to decrypt the SoftToken secret. Please try again".

There is a cryptographic error within the SoftToken application. This can be a permissions issue (unable to reach the registry) or a sign of corrupted data.

The quickest way to repair the AuthAnvil SoftToken is to uninstall and reinstall the application. This cleans out the application data and overwrites leftover keys.

If a SoftToken license was already activated on this token you will need to reset the serial number in order for it to be reactivated on the device. Here is a link to an article outlining the SoftToken reset.
