Walk through these 4 steps to properly remove AuthAnvil Password Solutions.
Step 1 – Help Us Help You
If you are removing AuthAnvil software because of a problem, first give us a chance to fix it. At Scorpion Software we take customer satisfaction seriously. But don’t take our word for it; let us prove it to you. Come talk with our support team by selecting Open a Case above. Whether it is a feature you need for your business or an error preventing you from getting the most out of our software, we will do our best to make it right.
Note: If you are migrating your AuthAnvil server or merging your resources into another existing server, you may not want to remove all of the components. Take a look at the Documentation for your software (agent or server) to find out more information about how to reconfigure the software to point to a new location.
Step 2 – Uninstall Agent Software
Before removing the core server components we need to remove the agent software tied to the server. There are two types of agents: protection agents for AuthAnvil Two Factor Auth and sync agents for AuthAnvil Password Server.
Removing Standalone 2FA Agents
Standalone agent software such as Windows Logon Agent, Windows Credential Provider, RWWGuard, and Web Logon Agent can simply be removed through your system Control Panel in Add or Remove Programs, or Programs and Features. Uninstalling the software will disable any protection components in place.
The AuthAnvil RADIUS Server can also be uninstalled through the Control Panel, but you will want to reconfigure any VPN, NPS, Firewall or other logins that use AuthAnvil RADIUS for authentication BEFORE uninstalling the RADIUS component.
Disabling RMM + PSA Integration
Most RMM and PSA tools have protection agents built into the respective management software. See our integration's forum for more information.
Kaseya Addins for AuthAnvil Two Factor Auth and AuthAnvil Password Server can be uninstalled through the Control Panel on the server where Kaseya is installed. Be advised that this will require a Kaseya schema rebuild for the removal to complete take effect.
Please contact Support if you are not certain how to uninstall a particular protection agent.
Removing AuthAnvil Password Sync Agents
Sync Agents will not function without a server to send them instructions. It is still a best practice to remove any sync agents that are not going to be used to prevent the service from checking for new information. Remove sync agents directly from the Control Panel.
Note: If there are 2 “AuthAnvil Password Sync Agent” components, make sure they are removed in this order:
- Uninstall AuthAnvil Password Sync Agent
- Uninstall AuthAnvil Password Sync Agent Control Form
If you remove sync agents that have active synchronization tasks assigned to them, you may receive email notifications of sync failures.
Step 3 – Uninstall Server Software
All AuthAnvil server software have built-in uninstallers to automate the removal process. Simply open Control Panel and remove the program for your server software. It is recommended to uninstall in the following order:
- AuthAnvil Two Factor Auth
- AuthAnvil Single Sign On
- AuthAnvil Password Server
Here are a few precautions to keep in mind when removing AuthAnvil server software.
AuthAnvil Password Server: Uninstall AuthAnvil Password Server first in case users are required to use SSO or 2FA in order to log in. You may also wish to export password data or reports to make sure you have the information available if you are migrating to another password management tool.
AuthAnvil Single Sign On: Make sure no remaining applications are forced to use SSO to log in. Try logging into all of your SSO applications directly, without using AuthAnvil Single Sign On, to make sure you can still get in once SSO is uninstalled.
AuthAnvil Two Factor Auth: As mentioned above, you should remove all of the 2FA protection agents before removing the 2FA server software. If you don’t, you will disable the authentication functionality while still leaving the security in place to lock people out. Contact us if you need to bypass or override an existing 2FA login.
Removing AuthAnvil Databases
AuthAnvil uninstallers do not remove the database. You will need to connect in and manually remove the database after uninstalling to remove all remaining data. See the respective installation guides in the Tech Library (most are stored under Legacy Documentation).
If you are removing AuthAnvil v3.0 or earlier, you will also need to uninstall the AuthAnvil Database Management Tool.
Step 4 – Generate a New Subscription key
To make sure you are not billed for any missed software, you will need to log in to the Customer Portal and generate a new subscription key, expiring the old one.
Note: Generating a new Subscription Key will expire any existing Subscription Keys, causing any AuthAnvil server software using the old key to fail within 72 hours!
- Log in to https://customer.scorpionsoft.com with your email address.
- Click on “Account” and expand the tab for Subscription Information
- Click “Generate New Key” and you will have a new subscription key for checking in with our licensing server. All other subscription keys and subscription passwords will be expired.
