Step 1 – Backup your existing data
SSO Settings are backed up as part of AuthAnvil Two Factor Auth but we also recommend backing them up separately.
- Open a command window and go to C:\Program Files\Scorpion Software\AuthAnvil\AuthAnvilTools\SSOBackupTool
- To run the backup, run the command ScorpionSoft.IdentityServer.Backup.exe followed by -b and the preferred filename.
i.e. ScorpionSoft.IdentityServer.Backup.exe -b “ssobackup.xml” - Your backup file is created and saved in the same directory from where you ran the command. If the backup is successful, the tool will complete silently. If you receive an error make sure you have the correct SQL instance name, verify that your user account has privileges to access the database and run the backup again.
Step 2 – Upgrade to the newest version of 2FA and SSO
AuthAnvil Single Sign On is closely integrated with AuthAnvil Two Factor Auth. The upgrade procedure will be different depending on the version you are currently running:
Important: Make sure to stop the “AuthAnvilSSO” application pool in IIS before proceeding with the upgrade. This will prevent any interference while the upgrade is taking place.
AuthAnvil 2FA v4.5 or v4.6
If you are not running the latest version of AuthAnvil Two Factor Auth, walk through the 2FA upgrade guide. Once you are finished 2FA will be upgraded to v5.0, and SSO will be upgraded to v3.6.
AuthAnvil 2FA v5.0
Once you are on the latest AuthAnvil 2FA you can upgrade AuthAnvil Single Sign On.
Download the installer from the SSO downloads page. Run it and it will first remove the previous version files (v3.6). Continue through the prompts and it will install AuthAnvil SSO v4.0, configuring it with the settings of your AuthAnvil 2FA server already in place.
Step 3 – Test upgraded AuthAnvil Single Sign On
With all the previous configuration settings now restored, your installation should be fully functional. Open a browser to https://<yourdomain.com>/SSO and try logging in. Any previously configured applications will still be available to you.
NOTE: If you are unable to log in or load the SSO page you may need to update the service URLs. See Appendix B in the SSO v4.1 Install Guide
Office 365 Users: You may need to re-input your *.onmicrosoft.com credentials into the Office 365 application in the SSO Manager. This will trigger a check with Office 365 to make sure everything is still synchronized between AuthAnvil SSO and Office 365.
Step 4 – Backup your new SSO configuration and settings
You are almost done. Actually, you are!
All that is left is to back up your newly configured AuthAnvil Single Sign On settings.
