ERROR: Unable to delete a device when this device is also a 'gateway' within a subnet

Problem:

A device cannot be deleted and you are presented with this error.

  • Relevant output form error.log

 Cause:

When a device is the gateway for a subnet, it will not allow you to delete this device. 

As shown in the screenshot,  device 10.20.55.201 is mark as gateway for subnet 10.20.55.192/28 therefore you will not be able to delete this device.

(As department user go Administration -> Other -> IP Subnet Definitions)

Solution:

  • Remove this device as the gateway from the subnet

  Steps:

As a department user click:

Administration -> Other -> IP Subnet Definitions -> Update (choose IP Network: 10.20.55.192)

Choose device 10.20.55.200 as the gateway for 10.20.55.192/28 and click Update IP Subnet.

  • Perform device delete action.
  • If this device is the only device in the subnet, you would  need to delete the subnet. 

   Steps:

  • As a department user click:

    Administration -> Other -> IP Subnet Definitions -> Delete (choose IP Network: 10.20.55.192)

  • Perform the device delete action.
