QUESTION

After upgrading to "Kaseya 2" (v6.x) why does the Machine Group drop-down in the view filter show extra groups ending with .root?

ANSWER

In Kaseya 2 (starting with v6.0), machines belong to "organizations" as well as machine groups. The structure is: -

machine.group.org

Groups belong to organizations and / or parent groups, but a machine can also belong directly to the "root" of an organization (i.e. it is not in a group). To display these machines, you need to select org.root from the group drop-down in the view filter. If you just select the org name, it will display all machines that belong to any group in that organization.

This is by design - there should be a .root "group" displayed for every organization.
