Office 365 PST Importer – User Edition Configuration Guide
The interface for Kaseya Office 365 PST Importer has numerous configuration options as shown below.
In most cases the options you’ll need to change are the Destination, Destination Root, and the PST Details.
Exchange Details
UserName - The user name you are importing for. An example is user@domain.com.
Password - The password for the user you are importing for.
EmailAddress - The email address of the user you are importing for. Typically this is the same as user@domain.com.
Destination Root
Office 365 - Office 365 is the default for this setting.
OnPremise - Used if you are importing into an on premise server. This setting is not recommended.
Use EWS Impersonation - The default is to Use EWS Impersonation, meaning the migrator will impersonate the owner of the Mailbox when uploading items using EWS. Because of the throttling limitation imposed on Office365 this setting is recommended.
Destination
The Destination is simply whether you want to import the PST data to your mailbox or archive.
Destination Root
The Destination Root controls whether a new folder is created for the PST data. When PST Name as Root is selected, a top level folder will be created in the mailbox and the PST data will be copied to that folder. In most cases this is the option you’ll want to select. As an example, if the PST name was Matt Backup, and the PST Name as Root is selected, the import would create a top level folder called Matt Backup and the PST data would be restored beneath that folder.
If the Root of Store option is selected, the top level folders of the PST files will be restored to the top level of the mailbox or archive. So the Inbox of the Matt Backup PST file will be placed in the Inbox folder of the mailbox.
PST Details
In the PST Details area, you will see a list of Outlook profiles on the workstation and the PST files associated with those profiles. If selected those PST files will be uploaded to the selected Destination. If you want to select PST files which are not attached to a profile, click the Use other PST File button and browse to the location of the PST file you want to upload. Note, you can add multiple PST files to be uploaded.
Advanced Options
Use MAPI and EWS for Upload
This setting will automatically be enabled or disabled depending on the version of Office 365 you are importing into. Checking this option will result in the best performance, but sometimes it is necessary to uncheck this option. By default, it uses both MAPI and EWS for throttling, but sometimes it's necessary to disable MAPI and just use EWS for uploads.
Cache Password
Prevents you from having to re-enter the password.
Use Direct Discover
This setting should be selected if the Autodiscover records aren’t setup for the domain you are trying to import PST files into. With this setting, the Exchange Migrator will attempt to directly connect to Office 365, bypassing the Autodiscover process.
Use Address Re-Re-Writing
Address rewriting will rewrite the Native Exchange email address format (for example EX: /o=First Organization/ou=first administrative group/cn=Recipients/cn=UserName’) which are only valid in the source Exchange organization to the SMTP address for the address entry if it can found within other message properties or resolved by looking at the Global Address List based on the Display Name of the recipient. Note because this is an automated processes exact address matching can never be 100% assured if GAL resolution is used and more than 1 contact has the same display name.
Contacts Check box - This allows rewriting of Contacts to be either enabled or disabled.
GAL Resolution check box – This allows the GAL resolution to be switch on and off if this is switched off then only recipient collection mapping will be used for rewriting.
Recipient collection check box – This allows the disable and enabling of using the recipient collection mapping for rewriting disabling this would force all resolution to be done using the Global Address List.
Thread Control
In most cases these shouldn’t be modified, but here is what these settings control.
Max Threads – The number of simultaneous TCP connections to Exchange. The Exchange server will throttle any more than 10 simultaneous connections.
Batch Size – The total number of message that will be sent in one batch. The actual batch size will depend on the size of the messages in the batch.
Starting the Import
To start the import you simply click the Start Import button.
Validation Report
When the import is complete, you can click the Run Verification button to verify the item counts between the PST folders and the mailbox or archive folders. When the verification is run an HTML report is generated which shows the item counts.
