Why do I see “root” in my K2 machine groups? Can I get rid of these?

KB#:  KKB000217

QUESTION

Why do I see “root” in my K2 machine groups? Can I get rid of these?

ANSWER

All machine names in K2 take the form of Organization.Group.Machine. You must use a three part machine name – you can’t (for example) have just Group.Machine.

In v5.1 machines can exist directly beneath the parent without being in a sub-group. In K2 these machines are assigned to a group called “root”.

If you want your K2 group structure to closely resemble the 5.1 structure, you can do the following:

Choose “Single Organization” during install of K2 rather than “Multiple Organizations”.

OR If you already created Multiple Organizations during migration from v5.1, you can:

1) Create single new org (changing the default group name if desired)

2) Create sub-groups matching previous v5.1 top level groups

3) Move agents from orgs to new org / subgroups

4) Delete orgs that were migrated from v5.1
