Why won't SBS 2003 with ISA 2004 allow KES updates?



The AVG update process uses communication over http so if you block it by a corporate firewall it will not work. Therefore there should be a rule set in ISA to allow the communication of AVG updater with the update servers. However that rule doesn't have to be so general as allowing all http traffic through - it will be enough to allow AVG processes to connect to AVG update servers.

There are two possible ways how ISA could be blocking this - as a firewall or as a proxy (I do not know how the customer has set his ISA server). If his ISA is functioning as a firewall only, the necessary information what should be allowed through can be found here:

If ISA is acting as a proxy you will also need to specify the proxy server and its settings in the AVG configuration.

- Launch AVG and open the Tools menu -> Advanced settings.
- Move to the "Update" section and select the "Proxy" option.
- You can define proxy server here (manually and automatically from the web browser as well).

If you continue to have further issue, please run the avgdig tool found in C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9 on the affected machine. Open a support ticket with Kaseya; attached a zip file with the files generated from the tool. The files can be found in in avgdiag or avgdiagex folder in either user temp (%tmp%) or system temp directory (%systemroot%\temp).
