(9.3) Migrating from Classic Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware to the new Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware

The New Anti-Virus/Malware Modules in 9.3

To address the issues and limitations of the original Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware modules, Kaseya VSA 9.3 introduced two brand-new modules written from the ground up that are more effective, efficient, and customizable than it's predecessor. Unlike the classic module's use of Agent Procedures and lua scripting, the new Anti-Virus/Malware modules utilize the endpoint fabric technology introduced in R9.3. Why do I have Duplicate Modules? Which one is which?

In 9.3, the new modules are titled "Anti-Virus" and "Anti-Malware, and the older modules are renamed "Anti-Virus (Classic)" and "Anti-Malware (Classic)" respectively. This was done in an effort to allow our customers to migrate at their own pace and to not drastically change their environments from one release to the next. It is advised, if experiencing issues on the classic modules, that you begin migrating to the new modules to confirm if the issue persists in the new modules. You can continue to use the classic modules should you desire.

How do I get started using the new modules?

Upon first upgrading to R9.3, the new KAV/KAM modules will display as if KAV/KAM are not installed on the endpoints. This does not indicate that KAV has been uninstalled.

The screenshot above shows how agents with KAV/KAM installed via the classic modules will look. Note that nothing has changed regarding installations on the classic module.

 

New KAV/KAM Installations

If you are installing KAV/KAM on an agent for the first time click the install drop-down on the KAV/KAM toolbar and click the "Install or Upgrade Anti-Virus/Malware" Option:

This will open a pop-up window similar to the classic module's installation window. Select the profile and other appropriate settings and click Install:

Migrating from Existing KAV Classic Installations

If migrating from the classic modules, first you will need to confirm if your agents are on the latest version of KAV/KAM. 

KAV: 10.2.4.674 (Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10 for Windows SP1)

KAM: 1.80 (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Business 1.8)

 

If the agent has an older version of KAV/KAM, the installation on the new module will not be able to proceed. You can determine which version is on your agent by clicking the Column Sets dropdown on the classic module toolbar and selecting "Modify Columns"

Select the "AV Client Version" column and add it to the existing columns and click save:

If the agent is not on the latest version, uninstall KAV/KAM from the classic modules, reboot, and follow the steps above to install on the new modules.

If the agent is on the latest version, immediately follow the steps above to install on the new modules. The module will not reinstall the latest version, it will only link the module to the agent.
