When trying to reset the Administrator password on a Windows Vista, 7, or Server 2008 machine using Remote Control > Reset Password function, reports "Failed THEN in Step 1"
This happens whether or not "Create new account" option is checked.
This causes reset password to fail when selecting "Create new account" (because it already exists). If "Create new account" is not selected, it fails because the password can't be set on a disabled account.
Microsoft does not recommend activating the administrator account.
If there is no known administrator level password, use the Reset Password function to create a new account by selecting "Create new account" and "as Administrator" buttons.
However, if required, the disabled account can be activated using a shell command: -
net user administrator/active:yes
