9.5.16b Maintenance Release - 5th July 2023

The VSA 9.5.16b Maintenance Release (build 9.5.16.5679) includes enhancements and fixes described in the topics below. For minimum system and agent requirements, see these topics in the Kaseya R95 System Requirements Guide: Kaseya Server Minimum Requirements & Configuration and Agent Minimum Requirements.

Release Schedule

  • SaaS Deployment starts - Wednesday, July 5th, 2023
  • SaaS Deployment completed - Saturday, July 15th,  2023
  • General Availability (On-prem customers) - Friday, July 21st, 2023 - available now (see Note below)

Note: this release was updated on August 9th to further enhance the KaseyaOne SSO integration by automatically creating the VSA link in the KaseyaOne app launcher. On-prem customers who installed the 9.5.16.5651 build (released on July 21st) will need to run the patch install process again to benefit from this improvement. Legacy (manually created) app launcher links can still be used with VSA servers running 9.5.16.5651 or earlier builds.

Dependencies

Agent This release requires agent version 9.5.0.39. After upgrading from an earlier VSA version, you must update your Windows, macOS, and Linux agents using the Automatic or Manual update process from the Agent module. Agents updated to this version cannot be used to communicate with servers running VSA versions prior to 9.5.8.
Live Connect Applications When starting a Live Connect or Remote-Control session for the first time after installing this release, you will be prompted with a link to download the latest Live Connect build. You must complete the installation before proceeding with the session.

Enhancements

IT Complete

Note: If you experience any issues with KaseyaOne (IT Complete) authentication after installing this patch, please clear your browser cache.

Security and usability enhancements to the KaseyaOne Single Sign-on (SSO) feature:

  • Enhanced security and reliability of the SSO handshaking process.
  • Simplified the IT Complete authentication and registration workflow:
    • Removed the Authenticate With IT Complete and Register With IT Complete buttons from these locations:
      • System > Server Management > Login Policy
      • System > Orgs/Groups/Depts/Staff > Manage > IT Complete tab.
    • When enabling Log In With IT Complete, and the VSA organization is not already registered with KaseyaOne, a new browser window will be opened prompting the administrator to log in to KaseyaOne. Upon successful authentication, the registration process will be completed automatically and the VSA organization will be mapped to the KaseyaOne organization.

  • VSA links are now automatically created in the KaseyaOne app launcher upon registering the tenant for the first time. If the tenant was already registered prior to installing VSA build 9.5.16.5679 (see Note in the Release Schedule section above), existing legacy (manually created) links will be replaced with auto-created ones during the patch installation process.
  • Renamed the Login with IT Complete button on the login page to Log in with KaseyaOne.

Ransomware Detection

  • Updated Ransomware detection engine to version 1.2.1. This includes enhanced detection for new strains of ransomware, changed behaviors, and various other improvements to the speed and accuracy of detections.
Note:  All newly protected machines will get the latest detection engine. To update existing protected machines, use the upgrade process described below.
  • The Ransomware Detection > Operations > Machines page will now display a warning status in the Protection Status column when a detection engine upgrade is available. To update the engine, select the machine(s) and use the Upgrade button.

  • If Alert is configured, an alert will now be created when the Ransomware detection engine on a previously “Protected” machine is no longer active, due to malfunction or user action. In this scenario, the Protection Status for the machine on Ransomware Detection > Operations > Machines page will be changed to “Unprotected”, and the detection engine needs to be installed again to get it back into “Protected” status.
